Cengage Announces Appointment of Gary Fortier as Chief People Officer
BOSTON, February 8, 2018 — Cengage, an education and technology company, today announced the appointment of Gary Fortier as Chief People Officer. The appointment comes on the heels of the company’s successful launch of Cengage Unlimited, the first-of-its kind subscription service, and signals continued investment in recruiting the best and brightest talent to support the company’s transition to digital.

Based in the Boston headquarters, Gary will serve on the Executive Team and will be responsible for growing the Cengage employee culture in support of the company’s strategy. Gary most recently served as CEO for Vision Government Solutions, a Boston-based firm that provides land-parcel management software and services to municipalities, where he led a successful financial turnaround and organizational transformation.
Previously Gary was Chief Operating Officer for Raizlabs, one of the fastest growing mobile app development companies. At Raizlabs, Gary managed Culture, Communications and Organizational Design, along with M&A, and Strategy & Operations. Gary has served in operational, finance and HR leadership and executive-level roles at companies including GL Advisor, PowerAdvocate, and The Home Depot. Gary’s leadership experience stems from his time in the 82nd Airborne Division where he became a U.S. Army Ranger and jumpmaster.
Gary holds a B.A. in Government from Harvard University and an MBA, specializing in Finance and Management, from Columbia Business School.
